IN-BETWEEN began with a simple but open-ended idea: take ten existing publications, look for connections between them, and produce something entirely new from what is found. The project started from a curiosity about what happens when books are treated not as fixed objects but as raw material. The process combined visual and textual research to find unexpected relationships across the ten source publications.

strategy

Instead of following a specific set of rules, the approach was to let the research lead: looking closely at pages, images, and texts until patterns and relationships appeared. The goal was to discover rather than decide. Some of the strongest connections between the ten publications turned out to be entirely unexpected.

design

New compositions were made by physically stacking and arranging the ten books on top of one another, using their covers and pages as the raw material for each image. These arrangements were then photographed, turning the act of composition into the design method itself. Each photograph is both a research finding and a new visual object, uncovering connections between the source publications.

insight

The project revealed how new meaning can be created through editing and composition alone, without adding anything new to what already exists. By bringing texts and images from different publications into contact with one another, unexpected relationships appeared. Connections that none of the original authors intended became visible simply by placing their work side by side.

deliverables

The result was a printed publication comprising ten sequences, each developed from the visual and textual research into the source material. The publication was printed and bound by hand, making the physical production of the book a direct extension of the hands-on process behind the work itself.
