Design Academy Eindhoven's annual graduation show is one of the most prominent design events in the Netherlands, drawing professionals, press, and visitors from around the world. For the 2019 edition, held at the former Campina factory, the academy needed an identity that could span the full scope of a large-scale exhibition. Working in collaboration with Studio Remco van Bladel the task was to develop a visual system flexible enough to carry across a large volume of materials.
strategy
The challenge was to create an identity system that could be produced quickly and consistently at high volume. With a show of this scale, the visual language had to work across everything: from large factory-hall banners to social media posts. The answer was to build the identity around a limited set of core elements that could be replicated and adapted without losing coherence.
design
The factory's interior architecture provided the visual starting point, with its industrial character shaping the direction. Pictures of the architecture were combined with a stencil, which became the foundation of the entire identity. The stencil was based on nesting, a technique used in factories to maximise efficiency and reduce material waste. By taking the factory itself as the inspiration, the design remained rooted in its location.
insight
Working at this scale proved how important it is to design systems rather than individual pieces. The stencil system and recurring visual elements from the factory, created consistency while cutting production time across the full range of deliverables.
deliverables
We produced a large volume of assets: large-format banners, posters, maps, signage, merchandise, flyers, folders, social media content, and a graduation catalogue. The identity was applied both in the physical exhibition space and in digital channels, providing consistency throughout.
